Group exhibition Multifunctional Space at Atelje Bojar, Skopje, 2024
Opening of the Sales Exhibition and Promotion of the Multifunctional Space at Atelje Bojar
At this exhibition, I presented the artwork "Southern Touch," inspired by the symbols found in Macedonian traditional embroidery. The piece is part of the digital graphics cycle "Arcade Tradition."
The symbols and signs woven into our tradition carry profound symbolism and meaning. Their associative nature, strictly defined meanings, and functions were historically used by our women to decorate objects or clothing that were part of daily life, thus assigning them specific functions for when and how they should be used.
I remove these symbols from their usual narrative context associated with the past and place them in my digital world today. By doing so, I transform their expected symbolism, assigning them a new, universal pictorial meaning significant to my visual story. I leverage their striking appearance and strong, visually refined minimalism to narrate the story of our everyday life. In this way, I provide the temporal and spatial context of where the action took place and who the protagonists of my story are.
The artwork "Southern Touch" is realized on 400 gsm fine art cotton paper using archival ink, with a certificate guaranteeing its longevity for centuries. It is printed on a 12-color plotter designed exclusively for printing artworks and photographs.
Thank you to my esteemed colleague Ljupcho Bojarov for the invitation. |
